Workforce Skills Qualifications Courses (WSQ)

The Singapore Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) is a national credentialing system. It trains, develops, assesses and recognises individuals for the key competencies that companies look for in potential employees.

WSQ is based on national standards developed by WDA in collaboration with various industries comprising industry sectoral frameworks which serve to:

  • Raise the professionalism of the industry, particularly where recognition of Continuing Education and Training (CET) qualifications are lacking;
  • Improve labour mobility allowing companies in growing industries to easily recruit workers with the necessary skills whilst improving opportunities for workers to enter these industries.

  • Professional Image at Work
    Professional Image at Work

    On completion of the course, learner will have the knowledge and application skills in projecting professional image and be able to apply them to their workplace.

    This course is within the Competency Category of Sales and Customer Service and is one of the modules leading to the WSQ Certificate in Retail Operations. At the end of the course, the participant who is certified competent will be awarded a Statement of Attainment (SOA) certificate.

    This course covers the skills and knowledge to equip service personnel with the right grooming and professional image required for building confidence and projecting a positive image for the service personnel and their organization. It also involves equipping them with a positive and customer service oriented mind-set to impress and wow their stakeholders in their day-to-day engagement.

    Learning Outcomes:
    • Maintain Personal Grooming (head-to-toe)
    • Maintain Personal Hygiene
    • Apply Professional Etiquette in dealing with Customers

    Deliver Impactful Presentation

    Making presentations are an expected part of your skills portfolio. However, not all of us are natural presenters. We may wonder how we can present without feeling nervous or what we should do if we forget our script or if our visual aids don't work.

    Acquire the necessary skills to prepare and deliver a presentation that convinces and inspires an audience to take action, such that what was well planned and organised is delivered as though it was natural and spontaneous.

    Learning Outcomes:
    • Identify presentation objectives and presentation formats in accordance with organisational procedures.
    • Gather and analyse necessary information to support presentation objectives.
    • Develop presentations and presentation collaterals, to support presentation structure.
    • Present information in appropriate presentation formats to achieve presentation objectives.
    • Evaluate presentations to determine areas of improvement.
    Certificate:

    Upon successful completion, participant will receive a WSQ Statement of Attainment (SOA).

    Coach for Service Performance

    This course addresses the skills and knowledge to coach individuals for service performance. It involves identifying the coaching needs of individuals, and preparing and delivering a coaching plan. It also includes the use of coaching techniques to close service gaps and monitor the progress of individuals for improvements in service performance.

    Learning Outcomes:
    • Recognise the role of a coach in coaching for service performance
    • Prepare coaching plan for individuals to address service performance issues
    • Demonstrate the use of coaching techniques to address service performance issues

    Apply Basic Negotiation Skills and Techniques

    We often negotiate with clients, colleagues, subordinates and even bosses, formally or informally. Negotiation is about making adjustments to timelines, priorities, resources and deliverables to help things run smoothly. Most people find it difficult to start a negotiation because they do not know how to start. Some are afraid to engage in negotiations because they worry that they would not know how to handle the situation should a negotiation become difficult. Or other times, we feel we could have done the negotiation better. It is an art which many of us are not fully confident in doing. This course equips you with the key negotiation skills which can significantly improve both the individual and business performance and ultimately meeting the needs of the participating parties.

    Learning Outcomes:
    • Identify negotiation outcomes in commercial situations to establish organisation’s desired position in the negotiation.
    • Identify roles and responsibilities needed to support negotiation objectives.
    • Prepare relevant background information to understand other parties’ position.
